About Patti Cake$ 💬

An inspiration underdog story straight out of Jersey, an unlikely hero finds her voice and chaises her dreams in PATTI CAKE$, the first feature film from acclaimed music-video director Geremy Jasper.

  • Music is my language.

Patricia Dombrowski (Danielle Macdonald), a.k.a. Killa P, a.k.a. Patti Cake$, drafts rhymes behind the bar at a dingy dive, trying to pay off her Nana's (Cathy Moriarty) medical bills and support her hard-drinking mom, whose own musical aspirations failed long ago. Patti and her rap partner/best friend Jheri Curlz (Siddharth Dhananjay) share dreams of fame, fortune, and escaping Dirty Jersey for good, but they haven't found a producer with the ''fire beats'' they need. She unexpectedly gravitates to a reclusive goth-metal musician named Basterd (Mamoudou Athie), who just might be able to help Patti achieve hip-hop superstardom.

  • Are you ready to take a ride in the Patti wagon?

Suffering from both discrimination and sexism, Patricia ''Dumbo'' Dombrowski has been hearing the words ''A big white girl can't make it as a rapper.'' Will, she ever transform into the hip hop star ''Patti Cake$'' as she has been dreaming, or will she be a flash in the pan in her poor neighborhood in Jersey?

''Rapping is her secret superpower, which we see when her fantasy life is up there on the screen.''

Geremy Jasper

PATTI CAKE$ tells the inspiring story of a talented and 23-year-old young woman who struggles with her mother's tantrums while confronting prejudices and her small-town fate. The writer/director Geremy Jasper, who also scored the film, tells that he was inspired by his own 23-year-old self while writing the story of the film.

''Patti's story is my story as a 23-year-old. A misfit. Just that feeling of being trapped, the feeling of, of being stuck in your hometown, of not being able to ever express yourself as an artist, not being able to make music, just feeling forever like some sort of alienated, lost person who doesn’t fit in. There's a lot of me in her, there's a lot of my family in her.''

Geremy Jasper

''Patti Cake$ is a coming of age story about following your dreams, finding your passion and your inner confidence.''

Danielle Macdonald as Patti

''Patti Cake$ is a small-town thrill ride for an unexpected dreamer going for their shot. She’s all heart and hustle and you can’t help but root for her.''

Bridget Everett as Barb

''Patti Cake$ is the story of three women coming of age, coming to terms that all live together, their struggles, challenges and destiny.''

Cathy Moriarty as Nana

''Patti Cake$ is just the most badass chick of all time. She's the sweetest girl with her friends, but the meanest, baddest chick with her enemies. She's got so much heart and that's what people will love when they watch her on-screen.''

Siddharth Dhananjay as Jheri

''Patti Cake$ is an underdog story about fighting against all odds.''

Mamoudou Athie as Basterd
