Soviet Union. 1933. Stalin's tyranny could destroy their country. But not their love.

About the Bitter Harvest 💬

  • An epic film based on true historical facts.

We've all heard of the Holocaust, but what about the Holodomor? The term Holodomor refers specifically to the brutal artificial famine imposed by Stalin's regime on Soviet Ukraine and primarily ethnically Ukrainian areas.

We have always drawn our most powerful stories from the most tragic events of our time. In great tragedy, lies great drama but also the cautionary tale that lingers to remind us of the ugliness we are capable of.

Many years ago one of the greatest crimes against humanity was committed on a nation, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 7 million+ Ukrainian men, women, and children. BITTER HARVEST is a story from one of the most tragic events of our time.

  • Love. Honor. Country. Rebellion. Survival.

Based on one of the most overlooked tragedies of the 20th Century, BITTER HARVEST is a story of love, honor, country, rebellion, and survival as seen through the eyes of two young lovers caught in the ravages of Joseph Stalin's genocidal policies against Ukraine in the 1930s.

As Stalin advances the ambitions of the burgeoning Soviet Union, a young artist named Yuri (Max Irons) battles to survive famine, imprisonment, and torture to save his childhood sweetheart Natalka (Samantha Barks) from the ''Holodomor,'' (the death-by-starvation program which ultimately killed millions of Ukrainians). Against this tragic backdrop, Yuri escapes from a Soviet prison and joins the anti-Bolshevik resistance movement as he battles to reunite with Natalka and continue the fight for a free Ukraine. Will their love endure?
