This drama explores what happens when a middle-aged divorcee, trying to start over, hits a series of dead-ends that force her to take increasingly desperate measures to survive.

Kyra Johnson (Michelle Pfeiffer) is a middle-aged divorcee who moved into her mother Ruth's (Suzanne Shepherd) Brooklyn apartment while looking for work and trying to get back on her feet.

When her elderly mother dies suddenly, Kyra is left without any support, both emotional and financial, and finds herself with few options - none of them good.

Long out of work, the deep-in-debt Kyra struggles to support herself. She can't bear the pain, so it's easier to break down when alone. Sadness had left its fingerprints all over her face.

Will she find herself before she loses everything?

Despite a blossoming affair with a sympathetic neighbor Doug (Kiefer Sutherland), who also struggles to make ends meet in today's economy, Kyra can't accept that her once-tidy life is falling apart, and she resorts to increasingly desperate measures to hold onto what little she has left.
